Can I come and choose
the stone I want?
We advise that all customers should view their stone
before it is fabricated. This is especially the
case with certain stones which have a lot of natural
variation, pattern or movement. We are open Monday
Friday 8.00am 5.00pm. Customers are
invited on an appointment only basis, so please
call 02380 669300 to arrange an appointment before
visiting.
Why would I choose
quartz instead of granite for my kitchen work surface?
Granite can incorporate natural flaws, pot marks,
veining, irregularities and can never be guaranteed
to remain consistent throughout the whole installation.
Quartz slabs are manufactured so are more consistent
and avoid these natural imperfections.
What needs to be done
before you come out to template?
All sinks and hobs need to be on site. If you are
having an under mounted sink this should come with
a manufacturers template, this template should
be available and given to our templater.
All base units need to be fitted and fixed in their
final position. They should be fixed to each other
where applicable, as well as to the wall. The units
also need to be level.
When can I plaster
or tile my walls?
Any plastering should be done before templating.
It should definitely not be done in-between templating
and the installation of your work surfaces. Tiling
should be done after your work surfaces are installed.
Do I need to be present
when you template and install?
We always advise customers to be at both the template
and installation. This helps to guarantee that your
work surfaces are manufactured and installed to
your exact requirements.
What is the thickness
of granite work surfaces?
Most granite work surfaces are 30mm in thickness.
We also do 40mm looking work surfaces by putting
a 20mm down stand on a 20mm work surface, thus building
up the edge. In bathrooms we usually use stone which
is 20mm in thickness.
Do
I need to seal my granite work surfaces?
Granite worktops are sealed prior to despatch and
upon installation, they should then be resealed
every 6 months using the maintenance kit provided.
Quartz work surfaces do not need to be sealed.
Can I place hot pans
directly on my granite work surfaces?
We always advise customers to use pan stands and
not to place hot pans directly on their granite
work surfaces, this avoids the risk of heat fracture.
How
should I clean my work surfaces on a daily basis?
All the natural materials we supply, whether it
be marble, granite, or limestone require care to
preserve their beauty. Things such as lemon juice,
red wine and olive oil should not come in contact
with these surfaces as they may stain them. Spills
should be cleaned immediately with warm soapy water.
Wash with clean warm water to which a non-abrasive
light neutral detergent (PH7) may be added. Rinse
with clean warm water and dry with a chamois leather
or similar.
It is not advisable to use kitchen cleaners that
contain bleaches or anti bacterial agents, nor anything
more powerful than washing up detergent unless they
are specifically intended for use on natural stone.
